FORESTS

Forests play a vital role in maintaining the health of our planet. They serve as the ‘lungs’ of Earth, sequestering carbon and other greenhouse gases to provide oxygen. They recharge watersheds and help regulate the hydrological systems that govern our climate. They are rich in biodiversity, home to more species than any other terrestrial biome. They are a source of livelihood for communities around the world, serving as a primary source of income for billions of people worldwide.
Yet, every year, the world loses around 10 million hectares of forest—an area roughly the size of Iceland. Forests are being cleared faster than they can recover—threatening biodiversity, accelerating climate change, and putting millions of livelihoods at risk. (source: FAO)
Rooted In Hope helps protect these precious ecosystems and combat the effects of climate change through reforestation and forest conservation. Our work goes beyond planting trees—we focus on restoring ecosystems, strengthening livelihoods, and creating long-term resilience.

ROOTED IN HOPE'S IMPACT
Through our programs around the globe, we are helping to:
REFOREST DEGRADED LAND
RECHARGE WATERSHEDS
RESTORE HABITATS & BIODIVERSITY
REMOVE INVASIVE SPECIES
REBUILD LIVELIHOODS

FEATURED PROJECT
Protecting Kenya’s Watersheds
Reforestation in the Aberdare National Park
In Kenya’s Aberdare region, forests play a critical role in supplying water to millions—including the city of Nairobi. But decades of deforestation have put this ecosystem at risk.
Through our partnership with local organizations and communities, we are working to restore this vital landscape—one tree at a time.
Impact in the Aberdare to date:
-
230,000+ trees planted
-
200 hectares reforested
-
4,000+ student volunteers engaged
-
900+ workers employed
These efforts are helping rebuild forest cover, protect water sources, and create sustainable livelihoods for local families.
Change we can see
A Model
That Works
-
Our approach is rooted in partnership and long-term resilience:
-
Trees are locally sourced from community nurseries
-
Planting creates jobs and supports local economies
-
Communities lead stewardship, ensuring lasting impact
-
Education builds ownership for future generations
